A 120-room hotel at Five Mile Queenstown designed by JCY Architects, with a roofline inspired by the Remarkables.
JCY Architects undertook the design, documentation and site observation for the Sudima Hotel at Five Mile, Queenstown. The 120-room hotel forms part of Building 7, sitting atop the development's retail podium.
The hotel comprises suites of visitor accommodation alongside a large restaurant and bar, an elevated outdoor dining terrace, and conference and office facilities. The roof design draws on the surrounding alpine landscape, its peaks mirroring the Remarkables range behind. This reference to the local topography, paired with a subdued colour palette, allows the building to sit comfortably within its natural setting, while structural steel detailing along the canopy lines and Corten screens wrapping the roadside elevations lend the exterior an industrial edge.
The interior design was led by Nikki Wilson of NW Studio, Arrowtown, whose simple yet sophisticated palette carries from the calm, cool hotel rooms through to the public spaces, restaurant and function rooms — a refined counterpoint to the bold exterior. The hotel opened in late 2021 and is now one of Queenstown's premier accommodation offerings
