Completed in 2008, the development was a joint project in conjunction with John S Jensen Ltd who was initially commissioned to design and coordinate the Resource Consent submission in 2002. Subsequent redesigns and revisions resulting from council & public objections and a final Environmental Court ruling delayed the commencement of the project to late 2006.
Located on the Whangaparoa peninsula in Red Beach, the multi million dollar development is closely linked to the existing Hibiscus Coast Retirement Village allowing access to the restaurant, swimming pool and other recreational & health amenities. In essence the project comprised 71 apartments spread over 3 floors plus a subterranean basement carpark and landscaped gardens with large water feature.
The design included a number of different configured units from 2 – 4 bedrooms, each with private decks and overlooking a golf course. Two separate lifts from the basement carparks accesses all the floors through a monitored electronic security system.
Constructed with masonry precast and in-situ reinforced concrete, cavity backed cladding and concrete tile roofing, the building presents a residential aesthetic impression while simultaneously projecting a modern vernacular with frameless glass balustrading and hi-tech kitchens.
