New World Te RapaNew World Supermarket, Te Rapa, Hamilton - 4,500m2 supermarket on a greenfield site with 250 car parks. Raw honest materials used on the exterior such as colorsteel cladding, concrete panels, honed concrete blocks and featured exposed steel. The eastern main facade facing the carpark is a high level clear glazing supported on a light weight steel substructure creating maximum ingress of light and visual connection to the outdoors. Exterior design elements are brought through into the interior with exposed ceilings. JCY undertook the lead consultant design role and provided observation during construction. This store was an in innovative break away from the norm of the then typical New World inwards focussed box and thereby bringing their store designs into the ‘future'. This store was the recipient of an NZ Institute of Architects Regional Award in 2006 and was the overall Nourishment category winner at the 2006 NZ Retail Interior Awards. |
